There are many ways to attack the casino. Trying any sort of progression or sequencing isn't a very good place to start.

Varying your bets LOWERS your expected winnings by raising the houses edge. All varying your bets does is lower your results.

You are, of course correct. I was speaking to the mistaken notion that varying your bets while playing the same negative edge game can overcome the house edge.

I neglected to consider that there is more than one way to change your bet in VP.
  • If you are playing 5 coins, then yes, sometimes playing fewer coins will increase the house edge.
  • If you are playing some number of coins, changing the denomination alone may change the house edge, but there will still be one.
  • Switching between different games with different positive house edges (negative player edges) with different bets will not overcome the house edge.

Bottom line. If all of your bets are made against a house edge, then there is no way to overcome that by changing them.

You can still overcome the negative expectations by taking advantage of a promo and or players club mailings and such, but we are on the same page.

This is hysterical! FP conceded that those winning years were more about luck than anything else. CS is at heart a loss containment tactic. Have more fun for more time and hands with less cash. Take occasional pot shots. Let the comps fall where they may. Leave a happy customer.

i probably played more VP than most on here, (at home ) i played on my phone TDB and ran up 125k$ playing 5$ table, lost a couple bankrolls of 4k but recovered and pushed harder do i believe the same could happen at casino? certainly, do i have the br to endure the losses? not in this life time but i do believe flat betting or a progression system each time a bankroll has been doubled is the best way to go for Vp

That is an hysterical and mis-informed quote. There are numerous posters on this forum more knowledgeable than him, and many with a lot more experience as well.

I strongly request that you move this thread to the Recreational Forum. FP is forbidden to post on this forum because . . . well, for a lot of reasons. If you continue to ask questions about him, he might feel justified in coming back here and that would cause a great deal of stress for a lot of us. There are good reasons we don't want him here.

But if you re-phrase your questions and post them on the Recreational Forum, he'll likely be happy to talk to you until the cows come home. That's a solution that works for you, him, and the rest of us.

Remember, however, that what was said here by more than one poster is absolutely true:

If you don't have the edge (including the game, slot club, promotions, etc.), you are going to lose. You will have winning days along the way, but you're going to be a net loser. There is nothing in CS that changes that.

To win long term at video poker or any other gambling game, you MUST limit your play to where the odds are in your favor. If you play TDB with a pay schedule less than 9-7 (and even then the casino has to kick in something to make the game beatable), someday soon you are going to lose a LOT LOT LOT. It's a heaven or hell game, and even if you're playing the good pay schedule you lose a ton sometimes. Combine it with a bad schedule --- whoa brother!
